The Most Dangerous Game
By: Richard Connell
The genre of The Most Dangerous Game is kind of a mix between gothic, horror, and adventure. The themes of the story are horror and violence mixed with adventure and suspense. The horror and violence is what General Zaroff is doing to his prey and the adventure and suspense is when he is hunting. the setting is an off the beaten path island which is covered with a jungle and a death swamp. Richard Connell lets us believe in the beginning of the story that Rainsford will be ok after he falls overboard because he makes us think the island is filled with hunters. But in turn, Connell is tricking us because Rainsford ends up being hunted by a human. This also makes this writing fall under the mystery catagory as well as the others. Connell keeps alot of suspense throughout the story never giving any hints to what will happen next, thus keeping us on our toes.
